It is a sad and difficult time when a loved one passes away. St Helen’s Church is here to help and support bereaved friends and families. We offer memorial or thanksgiving services in church or a service at the crematorium. There is also the possibility of a burial in the churchyard for those who lived in the village, or interment of ashes in our Garden of Remembrance.
If you are arranging a funeral, please contact your chosen funeral director, and contact us by phoning the Parish Office (01582 834031).
Where a loved one has their ashes buried in the Garden of Remembrance, a brass or plastic plaque can be installed as a memorial to them. To organise this, download the form by clicking this Memorial Plaque Application form 2023. Once you have completed the form, return it to church with the appropriate fee.
There are rules governing the memorials which can be installed on any grave in our churchyard. It is worth consulting these before you visit a memorial mason, and you can access them here. Please make sure the memorial mason you select knows that it must comply with these rules which apply to all Church of England Churchyards in the Diocese of St Albans (which covers Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire).
