Notes from Sunday’s Service

Due to a technical error, last Sunday’s service was, unfortunately, not livestreamed. Apologies to all who were looking forward to watching online. John Grace has kindly shared his notes from the service, which can be read here.

During the Safeguarding Sunday service, Richard explained that we are all responsible for ensuring that everyone in our community is safe, regardless of whether you have a leadership role or not.  Online training provided by the Church of England is an excellent way for us all to educate ourselves in this.  Please visit Safeguarding Training Portal (cofeportal.org) to register – we recommend starting with the Basic Awareness and Foundations courses. Each course takes about an hour and you can pause it whenever you need.  You can listen to or read the content which is very clear and contains a few questions for you to answer throughout. On successful completion you will receive an online certificate.  If you have any questions or difficulties then please contact Helen Caldwell, Safeguarding Training Administrator on 07974 762997.

Developing Disciples
We have launched a very exciting new initiative for St Helen’s  and St Peter’s and are inviting you to find out more about it. The course about Developing your Discipleship is open to all. If you missed the launch you can find out more by watching the Youtube of the service on October 15. Carol’s sermon is at 25:35 and Richard’s introduction at 1:08:30.

Please ask Richard or Carol or Hilary  Hollick for more information and an invitation to our Taster session with puddings and wine at 7pm on Wednesday 15th November. To help with catering please rsvp for the taster evening to Hilary on hj.hollick@gmail.com or phone on 07712 791625. We hope you will be joining us!

Cleaning Morning at St Peter’s
Saturday 11 November
10am – 12 noon.

Please contact Kath Andrews 07794 354409 for informnation.

You may recall that last Christmas we bought into the charity ‘Christmas Lunch on Jesus’ (CLOJ) and delivered Christmas lunch hampers to 20 local families a few days before Christmas Day.

We will be doing the same this year and already have 20 families who we will be gifting these to and delivering on Sat 23rd Dec. If you or anyone you know, needs a little extra help with food at the moment, then please confidentially let Richard or Helen Caldwell (07974 762997) know.

Each hamper costs £30/£35 (depending on when we order them) so if you would like to buy a family in need Christmas dinner, then please make a donation to the St Helen’s Community Fund by clicking here. Donations can also be made by cash, or debit/credit card using the contactless device in church.

We also would love it if 10-20 members of the St Helen’s family would be able to deliver one or two hampers around Wheathampstead on Sat 23rd Dec – many hands make light work!  Please let Helen know if you would like to volunteer.

We also hope to partner with the Harpenden Hygiene Bank and deliver appropriate toiletries when delivering the hamper – if anyone is interested in helping out with this then please also let Helen know.

The Haven
Following the update on Claire’s work with The Haven, some people have asked how they can support the organisation’s work with young people and their mental health. Click here to make a donation or set up a regular gift.

If you missed her update, here is the recording of the 10am Parish Communion from the 29th of October – Claire starts her update at around 24 minutes in.
