4-Nov Midweek Email

Welcome to the weekly update from St Helen’s and St Peter’s Churches.  Including…

  • All Souls Evensong – Remembering Our Loved Ones
  • Remembrance Sunday
  • New national Covid-19 restrictions

On Sunday we held a special Evensong service to celebrate All Souls Day.   At the service, we lit a candle to remember more than 220 of your friends and family and their names appeared on screen.

You can watch this beautiful and moving service, by clicking on the link or the image of the candles.  The choir anthem, the lighting of the candles and the names of the loved ones are shown at approximately 58 mins.

Can we encourage you to forward this email (or copy the link) to your family and friends if it would be helpful for them as they pray and remember loved ones.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY

Our Act of Remembrance will be rather different this year because we can’t gather together in large numbers.  Instead we are encouraging everyone to participate at 11am on Sunday 8th November in a Doorstep Act of Remembrance.

Click on the image or click on this link to download the special leaflet we’ve produced so we can have a Act of Remembrance on our Doorstep this year.  – If you live in the village you should get a copy delivered through your door.

Poppy Display at the War Memorial from 1st -15th November. ‘Plant a poppy at the war memorial’ to make our giant-community-poppy grow to show that #WheathampsteadRemembers. Use this and #Doorstep Remembrance on social media.

Look out too for the special Online Remembrance Day service we are filming.

New National Covid Restrictions
Thursday 5th November – Wednesday 2nd December
From Thursday 5th November, new restrictions means that we must stay at home and avoid meeting people we do not live with (except for specific purposes).

For St Helen’s Church, this means that

  • There will not be 10am Parish Communion Services on Sunday
  • Coffee in the Chancel will be closed
We remain committed to helping keep you spiritually sustained by our online services, and providing a space to pray in St Helen’s Church.  We are also committed to providing practical and pastoral support.  Please contact us using the details at the foot of this email if you, or someone you know would benefit from further support.

We will keep you up to date about activities and services in church when detailed guidance is provided by the Church of England.  Please continue to pray for our nation – especially the most vulnerable.

We’re here for you and help is at hand!
We have set up teams offering both pastoral and practical support, so please let others support you – they are keen to do so! Hilary Hollick is helping organise this – so do contact her by email here, or on 01582 832567.  Alternatively call the village wide helpline “Support for All” on 01582 380910.
