For the first time in most recent memory Pentecost coincides with Choral Evensong. It’s also the first choral evensong since our All Souls service in early November.

We have an absolute treat in store. We have the joy and celebration of Pentecost represented in probably the best known set of evening canticles – Stanford’s setting in C. Certainly if you enjoy listening to it as much as the choir enjoys singing it then we’re onto a winner. The introit and anthem, however, focus more on the spiritual side of this feast. Tallis’ O Lord Give Thy Holy Spirit is a beautiful piece of Tudor music and Elgar’s The Spirit of the Lord is Upon You is an incredibly atmospheric piece taken from his oratorio “The Apostles”.

Add to this three great hymns and I think you’ll have an enjoyable evening of music and hopefully find peace and spirituality you might expect from a celebration of Pentecost.

As we emerge from the the pandemic we are here to help you navigate your way forward.  Join me as we put our “Best Foot Forward”, a circular walk from St Helen’s Church. Together we will reflect and learn from the past year, so we can face the future well.

We shall be walking in small groups, at a gentle pace and taking regular stops, to create space for our own personal reflection, as well as giving us the chance to share our experiences of the pandemic with others. Although this is a church-led initiative, we welcome all and will shape the tone of the walk to suit the participants.

Feedback on the two pilot sessions has been overwhelmingly positive. But don’t take my word for it, here’s a taste of what other wrote…
“A very helpful format”; “I loved the simplicity”
“One of the most helpful things I’ve done in lockdown and really insightful.”
“Extremely valuable and helpful” and “really positive.”

There are now two more sessions left: Wed 2nd June (pm), Sat 5 June (pm).  Click here to book a place.   Alternatively, if you have any questions, you can email me by clicking here.

One final comment… “Allowing nature to be part of our healing as a church family in this way is inspired!”  I look forward to walking with you – Richard
