Safeguarding is at the heart of the Christian faith and requires action by all churches to promote a safer culture. St Helen’s and St Peter’s in Wheathampstead is looking for a replacement Safeguarding Officer to ensure the continued care and protection of all children, young people and vulnerable adults involved in our church activities. This is a voluntary position which will involve liaising with the Rector, Churchwardens and providing a bi-annual report to the PCC.
Suitable candidates will need experience of working with vulnerable groups and should be willing to have an enhanced DBS check, undertake relevant safeguarding training and provide references. Please email Helen Caldwell, to request a copy of the job description or a copy of your CV to
churchwarden@sth-stp.org or call 07974 762997 to discuss the position. Deadline for applications is 31st October 2022.
People’s Plan for Nature
Following our series on the Care of Creation, here is a new venture which you may not have heard of. Three respected environmental organizations; the RSPB, the National Trust and the Wildlife Trusts, are very concerned about the impact of proposed new weakening of legal protection for the environment, contained in the Government’s draft Bill. They want those of us who value the natural world to stand together and be counted. Here is an opportunity to use our ‘Voice’ on behalf of Creation- we encourage you to take a look. https://peoplesplanfornature.org/
As in the past we will have a wide range of Christmas cards available representing a large number of charities, as well as Advent calendars and candles, stocking fillers, wrapping paper, decorations and other festive gifts.
Death Notice
Many of us will remember Ann Hayes who lived in the village for many years and was a Pastoral assistant with Gillian Burland at St Helen’s before retiring to The Isle of Wight. We had the sad news from her son, Will, that Ann died on 28th September. Her funeral and cremation will take place on 28th October but Will tells us that the family are not expecting people from Wheathampstead to make the journey. However they are expecting to bring her ashes to be interred at St Helen’s at a later time with a service of remembrance.
