Included in this email:
  • Nominate your Lockdown Heroes!
  • New dates for Friends of St Helen’s Events
  • Invitation from The Children’s Society, our Charity Partner
  • How you can support the Foodbank this summer
  • Coffee in the Chancel – Holiday Opening Times

Over the past eighteen months different members of our congregations have “gone the extra mile” in what they’ve done for the local community, the church and individuals.  Who would you like to nominate as a “Lockdown Hero” to thank them for all they’ve done?

We will invite everyone nominated to send us their favourite hymns.  In the coming weeks we’ll sing these as our praise to God and thanks for the way individuals have risen to the challenge to “Love our neighbours as ourselves” during the pandemic.

Click here to nominate your hero or heroes.

The Friends of St Helen’s Church was formed over 50 years ago to raise money for the preservation, repair and redecoration of our beautiful medieval church – the centre of the village. To mark the work of the Friends over 50 years, you are welcome to join them in their opening event and celebration events.

Message from Rachel Brockie

Thank you for the £750 missional donation received during June from St Helen’s.  Your continued support is helping us to reach young people who, in many cases, require our support more than ever following periods of isolation, lockdown, and lack of schooling over the past 18 months.

Our much anticipated 2021 Good Childhood Report has been looking at the impact of the global pandemic on the well-being of children and young people.  This will be launched on 1st September.  You are welcome to join us on 1st September for a Webinar discussing the findings.  We will hear from Bishop Rachel Treweek (Bishop of Gloucester and Vice-President of The Children’s Society) along with our CEO Canon Mark Russell and members of our sector leading Policy and Research Team.  Anyone who signs up, and is then unable to attend on the day, will be sent a link to the recording along with accompanying documentation – so well worth registering.

With best wishes to all
Rachel

We are not running our Summer Hamper scheme this year. Here is a message from the St Albans & District Foodbank. Please support them if you can. There is also a collection point in the South porch of St Helen’s church.

Can you help us feed children facing holiday hunger this summer. We are running low on many staple items and urgently need donations to ensure we can continue to provide complete food parcels during the school holidays
The items we need the most are:

  • Long life milk
  • Long life juice
  • Rice – 500g or 1k bags
  • Tinned fish
  • Jam
  • Tinned tomatoes
  • Tinned potatoes/ instant mash
  • Dessert items
  • Tea bags – boxes of 40 or 80
  • Treat items such as crisps, savoury snacks, biscuits, sweets
Please see our website for donation points, it is super helpful to us if donations can be delivered to our warehouse directly, details and opening times can be found in the same link:
https://stalbansdistrict.foodbank.org.uk/giv…/donate-food/
We are very happy to receive deliveries direct from supermarkets if you find this the easiest way to donate. We appreciate that the minimum spend may be higher than you might want to spend as an individual, so many arrange it between a group of friends, neighbours or family members.
You can also donate money to us for us to spend on items needed, details of how to do this can be found on our website:
https://stalbansdistrict.foodbank.org.uk/…/donate-money/
Please make contact with us via social media or our website if you have any questions about any aspect of the foodbank and its services
Thank you for reading and for your continued support
