What is Posada?
Inspired by the Posada Celebrations of Latin America, which remember Mary & Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem in the run up to Christmas, Posada Wheathampstead is the chance for families and individuals to play a special part in the Christmas Story. Our very own knitted Mary & Joseph (with their trusted Little Donkey) will be journeying through the village during December, on their way to the Crib Service on Christmas Eve. Can your home provide a much needed sanctuary for them for one night in December?
How do you get involved?
Book the night you want to host Mary & Joseph (details of the booking process is below) and then you will receive details of the people passing the Posada on to you, as well as where you will need to deliver Mary & Joseph the following day*. Get the kettle on and the biscuits out so that you can provide a warm welcome to the weary travelers (as well as the Host family who are delivering them to you) and pray the special Posada Prayer when you are all gathered together.
Once Mary & Joseph have settled in you may like to take photos and share some details of what they got up to whilst staying with you, using the Facebook page @wheathampsteadposada2019
The next day* be ready to pass on the Posada to the next Host family/individual – hopefully you get to enjoy another cuppa and more biscuits with new friends as well!
* We hope that there will be a Host available to receive the Posada on the day following your selected date but it may be that you have to hold onto Mary & Joseph for a little longer than 24 hours. In this case, and if you aren’t able to deliver onto the next Host, we will make special arrangements to help you pass on the Posada.
