All are invited to join us at this beautiful, traditional service of Evensong at 6pm, Sunday 26th June 2022 with lovely music. 6pm at St Helen’s Church.

If you can’t join us in church for the service, please join us online. Click here or on the image for the YouTube link or click here to view from our website.

During the 10am service at St Helen’s, our prayer initiative called “Our Daily Bread” continued with David Perch who talked about the church prayer calendar (click here to download). You can click here or on the image aboove to view the video (Go on, it’s under 3 minutes!)

There will be regular opportunities to hear from different members of our congregations about the faith habits or “daily bread” which sustain them on their Christian journey. We hope that hearing different ways of engaging with God will feed us all and fuel our spiritual growth.

Do you have something you could share? Come and find out more tomorrow, or watch this space for more info in future emails.

Celebrating 300 years of the James Marshall Foundation

A beautiful concert was held at St Helen’s Church this week to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the life of James Marshall and particularly his setting up of The James Marshall Foundation 300 years ago. Today, JMF is still a local charity that offers financial support direct to under 25s in families of low income for educational or career opportunities. It now has annual grant funding of over £250k.  The concert was led by young people with performances from St Helen’s and Beech Hyde School as well as from the four secondary schools in Harpenden. It was also attended by local dignitaries – including the Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff, as well as supporters and beneficiaries of the charity.

If you are aware of a suitable need for financial support, please contact JMF at www.jamesmarshallfoundation.co.uk or on 01582 760735.

Keith Andrews – Vice Chair of JMF

Do you know a young person who loves singing?

If so, tell them about our Choral Scholarship scheme.  We have a mixed voice choir which sings every week at the Parish Eucharist and once a month at Choral Evensong.  We currently have Choral Scholar vacancies for school pupils in years 10 to 13, to start in September.  Details can be found on our website. To download an application form, click here.  Simon Pusey, our Director of Music would be delighted to answer any questions by email or phone – simon.pusey@ntlworld.com or 07973 453222.  He would also like to hear from anyone of any age interested in joining our choir, whether as a Choral Scholar or other member.
