Choral Scholarships

Thanks to a grant from the Ouseley Trust and additional individual contributions St Helen’s is delighted to be able to offer a limited number of choral scholarships.

These are for young people (year 9/10 and above) to join our choir to develop their voices and musical skills and experience. In return they receive a sum of £300pa.

Choral scholarships are great for the CV and also prepare anyone looking to apply for university choral scholarships later in life.

To enquire about the scholarships please contact our church office (office@sth-stp.org)

Choirs

We have both a Junior and an Adult Choir at St Helen’s.

The Juniors (Years 1-8) meet on Fridays at 6:30pm for an hour and sing at our monthly All-age service.

The adult choir includes many teenagers and is around 30 strong. They meet on Fridays from 7:30-9pm and sing every Sunday morning and at our monthly choral evensong.

Music at Services

We sing both traditional and modern hymns on Sunday mornings at St Helen’s with a congregational mass setting and a choir anthem at communion. At the all age service the junior choir sings an introit (sometimes supported by the adult choir).

Our monthly choral evensong (4th Sunday of the month) is the highlight of our musical offering at St Helen’s.

In addition we have a monthly contemporary service at St Peter’s church in the morning, Impact Worship, our youth service (once a month in the evening) and Kids Worship (a monthly children’s service), with a mixture of traditional, modern and children’s worship songs. We also have occasional Taize services at St Peter’s.

The Organ

The Organ

St Helen’s has a small but effective 2-manual and pedal pipe organ, constructed by Hill, Norman and Beard in 1968. This has recently been renovated and restored to first class order by FH Browne.
