Our Leadership and Ministry team consists of:

Rev Richard Banham

Richard was licensed by the Bishop of St Albans in April 2010 as priest-in-charge of St Helen’s and St Peter’s Churches. He’s passionate that everyone should hear and respond to the good news of Jesus Christ and would love the church to play an even bigger role in the life of our community.

 Our Readers:

Pippa Legg

Pippa was a teacher. She takes special interest and responsibility for St Peter’s Church and organises the Alpha course.


 John Grace

John, though retired, continues to support the church with his involvement in Tots’ Time and Family Services.

 Claire Banham

Claire was licensed in 2010 and particularly enjoys working with children and young people and loves leading worship especially the more informal services.

 We are also fortunate to have 3 retired clergy in the village who have an active role in our church life.

Rev Brian Gwinn

Brian works tirelessly in looking after the church. He is Chair of the Fabric Committee and also the driving force behind Project 21.

Rev Jill Hazelwood

Jill is a pillar of the Wheathampstead community and was a much loved teacher of St Helen’s School. She has provided sensitive pastoral care to countless people in the village over the years.

 Rt Rev John Gladwin

John is the former Bishop of Chelmsford. On his retirement, he became Chair of Citizens’ Advice.



 Stephen Tudway – Churchwarden

Stephen became a churchwarden in 2013, having served for two years as Treasurer. In his spare time he works as an employed barrister for a US law firm and is studying for an MA in Systematic and Philosophical Theology. Stephen also has responsibility for our Groups & Teaching activities, and is one of our representatives on the committee of Wheathampstead Churches Together. He is married to Charlotte, who teaches at St Helen’s C of E Primary School.



 Hilary Hollick – Churchwarden

Hilary is a retired headteacher who took up the churchwarden role in 2011. She has special responsibility for welcoming new members and also the “Coffee in the Chancel” project.


Lucy Price – Children’s Work Co-ordinator

Lucy is the co-ordinator for  all the children’s work for the church, including being a Junior Church and Tot’s Time leader; a growing and exciting area of our church life we are introducing more activities and events for children and developing our styles and ranges of worship for tots to teens. Lucy is also a PCC member, on the ‘Coffee in the Chancel’ team, a governor at St Helen’s C of E Primary School, and a director of local children’s charity the Fundamentals Foundation. She is a mum of three and her business background is in marketing.


Imelda Tay – Parish Administrator

Mel was a teacher and civil servant before she took on the role of Parish Administrator in 2011.
