Giving to God

St Helen’s and St Peter’s Churches play a vital role in our community. In addition to our Sunday worship week by week, we welcome people to be married here or bring their children to be baptised and we share their joy.  We are privileged, through our ministry, to offer support to those who have lost loved ones. But even this is only the tip of the iceberg. We also work in the local schools, visit the elderly and housebound, carry out training for volunteers, provide many activities for all ages within our community and contribute to Christian work throughout the Diocese of St Albans and overseas.

We are greatly encouraged by the time, skills and energy which so many volunteers give to the church along with the financial support we receive. Our ministry costs money and prices continue to rise,  which is why we are asking for your help.

You know that it is important that our churches are able to meet their day to day bills, to maintain our historic buildings and to meet the costs of insurance, heating, our diocese and the clergy within it and to continue to provide the range of activities that makes up the life of our church.  We get no state support as a church, nor any assistance from the Diocese, the vast majority comes from our regular church members giving faithfully every week or month.

There is one specific and definite action you could take. Please join the large number of people on our confidential Planned Giving scheme.  Setting up a monthly standing order as an alternative to cash giving at services, enables you to give regularly and helps us to plan with reasonable certainty as to how much income we will receive.  If you pay tax, the church would benefit by an extra 25% if you were able to sign a gift aid declaration.

We are a growing church and this is an exciting time in our life together as the ministry we offer develops in many different ways.  Our ministry changes lives both within our church and in the wider community.  There is much for which we as a church are grateful and we continue to look forward to an exciting and challenging time in God’s service as we seek to deliver our Vision of “Living and working for God’s Glory in Wheathampstead and beyond.”
